The Hidden Danger

Sleep Apnea and Your Heart

When you stop breathing during sleep, your blood oxygen drops and your heart works harder. Night after night, this puts dangerous strain on your cardiovascular system. People with untreated sleep apnea are:
Q
3x more likely to have high blood pressure
Q
4x more likely to have a stroke
Q
5x more likely to develop heart arrhythmias
If you’re over 45, snore regularly, or wake up gasping for air, your heart may be at risk.

Common Questions

How does sleep apnea affect my heart?
Sleep apnea causes repeated oxygen drops throughout the night, forcing your heart to work harder. This increases blood pressure, raises stroke risk, and can lead to irregular heartbeats (atrial fibrillation).
Can I do my consultation via telemedicine?
Yes! Initial consultations and follow-up appointments can be done via telemedicine. Only the overnight sleep study requires an in-person visit to our Cahaba Park location.
Will my insurance cover this?
Most major insurance plans cover sleep studies and treatment. Our team will verify your coverage before your appointment. As a private practice, we don’t charge facility fees that hospitals add.
How long does the process take?
After your initial consultation, we typically schedule sleep studies within 2 weeks. You’ll meet with your doctor the morning after your study to review results and begin treatment if needed.
What if I need CPAP treatment?
Our on-site CPAP specialists provide comprehensive training and ongoing support. We follow up at 4 weeks, 6 months, and 1 year to ensure your success and protect your heart health.
